'The Shepherd Hut' - Artwork by Sasha Harding
To celebrate the first year of my little shepherd hut retreat being a holiday home for humans and hounds, I commissioned one of my favourite artists to paint 'New Dawn'. I had the vision and concept of the painting and Sasha made it a reality and a piece of art that will be cherished by me and hopefully others that come to visit.
A beautifully framed giclee print is now on display inside the hut and is available to buy in three different sizes including a greetings card, and a small or large mounted giclee print. All proceeds raised from the prints, will be donated to two special charities that are close to both mine and Sasha's hearts. Read on if you'd like to find out more.

About the artist - Sasha Harding
Sasha is a fine artist who has been painting for over 25 years in beautiful Cornwall, surrounded by all the things that inspire her. Her paintings are usually of the sea and coast, underwater and above, rock pools and crashing waves and dogs running in the shallows. Her paintings are held in collections all over the world with regular exhibitions in the UK.
About Sasha and her chosen charity - The British Heart Foundation
Over ten years ago, Sasha was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy, which is caused by a gene called the Lamin gene. Over the years, medication had kept Sasha on an even keel but in January 2023, Sasha's health deteriorated and was told she had advanced heart failure. After assessments at Birmingham Queen Elizabeth (QE) Hospital, it was decided to fit a defibrillator, as her heart condition was not bad enough to need a transplant at that stage. One year later and in March 2024, Sasha found herself back in Birmingham QE Hospital on a drip, that was keeping her alive and was now on the urgent waiting list for a heart. Things were becoming quite bleak for Sasha, where time was literally running out. The doctors decided to take her into intensive care for a balloon pump to be fitted to give her more time... but as they were prepping for surgery a heart became available!
Eighteen months on in her recovery and living with her new heart, she continues life with gratitude and doing what she loves. Every painting that Sasha has completed since her transplant; including 'The Shepherd Hut', is signed with her name and a heart to honour her donor.

Why I chose to fundraise for Cornwall Hospice Care
Sasha is an artist that is/was loved by me and my husband Martyn, who sadly died from Bowel Cancer, at the age of 34 in 2014. Martyn passed away at Mount Edgcumbe Hospice on the evening of 24th October 2014, with those he loved around him.
Before Martyn died, we commissioned Sasha to create an original painting featuring him and our first dog Duke. Thirty limited edition prints were gifted to our nearest and dearest in memory of him. Martyn's wish for me was to start my own business and give the house we built together a purpose - this was never even a thought I could achieve at the time but here I am living the dream he had for me. I know Martyn would have been overjoyed and loved to have been apart of my venture, so it just felt right to ask Sasha to create the painting of my new chapter and put any proceeds made from it towards mine and Sasha's chosen charities.
